a 'blog' book

When I saw a fiction book about blogging I knew straight away I wanted to read it.
Blogging is one of my favourite things to do as is reading so Adorkable was like combining the two - perfect.

I first read Adorkable back when I started this blog (I even mentioned it in my 2012 august favourites! cringe!) but recently I reread it and I enjoyed it just as much as I did two years ago. So I thought I could let you guys know about it in-case it's something you'd love too.

Okay I'll give you my own quick/simple synopsis -

Jeane Smith is a seventeen year old girl. Jeane is a bit of a loner at school but wants it that way (or so she claims.) She has an extremely 'daring' fashion sense and oh yeah - she is a world famous blogger. Think tavi gevinson.

Michael Lee is an eighteen year old boy. Michael is the complete opposite of Jeane - popular, buys his clothes from topshop topman & jack wills and does extremely well in school. He is also friendly... something Jeane doesn't come across as.

So, and I assume you've all guessed, Jeane and Michael - well they become a 'thing'. Or at least a 'secret thing' because neither wants to be seen in public with each other. I know it sounds like every bad cliche rolled into one but I promise you it's not - it's actually really good!

The blog and twitter talk make the book ten times better for me - I think it's very unique in that sense.

If you're a teenage girl who blogs or just a teenage girl I would totally recommend you give Adorkable a read. It's cute ^.^

Have you ever read Adorkable?
Would you like to?

mac chatterbox from alice

This blog post is pretty long overdue as it was during the october midterm when I got an e-mail from alice explaining to me I had won her giveaway.
I feel like I should tell you a few things at this point -

1. I don't win things often. I'm not sure if this is down to karma or chance but I am just not a lucky person (or maybe I am? have you read that theory that luck is really based on whether you are a pessimist or an optimist? Either way I had never won a giveaway before!)  So I was ridiculously excited when I found out I had won alice's giveaway.

2. 'Who's Alice?' Alice is a blogger and a lot of you may already read her blog There's Something About Alice. She is around the same age as I am and her blog is really, really lovely.

3. 'What did you win in the giveaway?' I'm not sure if this should be a point (but hey, I'm making it one) since you all can clearly read and you've probably already looked at the photos above but in-case you're still unaware I won a mac lipstick in chatterbox! (is that what you say? a mac lipstick in chatterbox? or is it a mac lipstick called chatterbox? I'm so clueless..) The giveaway was a mac lipstick of your choice and I chose chatterbox.

The package that Alice sent the lipstick in is adorable - I know there's only a little checked pattern on it but it's the small details that excite me! The note (which I accidentally tore slightly when I was opening the package... I was excited, sorry) was lovely too - and the paper has owls on it ^.^

Chatterbox is quite a bright pink or at least bright for me so to tone it down I apply a lipgloss or a lip-balm on top. It was my first ever mac lipstick and I'm not disappointed. The sleek packaging... the creamy texture... uh it's just amazing.

Since receiving chatterbox I've bought another mac lipstick in lovelorn (which I am equally, if not more impressed with - possible review soon?)

So, I guess what I want to say is a huge thank you to alice for the giveaway - I never realised how much I'd love chatterbox or mac lipsticks in general.  Also winning something made me vair, vair happy - that sounds lame but it's true!

I'm planning to have a little giveaway for you guys soon...
what would you like to win?!

P.S I overused the words 'mac' and 'lipstick' in this post - sorry! I mean that's specifically what this blog post is about but still... it's annoying lol.

P.P.S I used lol ironically.

mini things are better.

I love mini things.
And you know what? I don't think I'm the only one.
Compared to full sized products they can be practical, easier to throw into your bag and let's be honest: cuter.
So whenever I saw all the travel mini's in boots just before christmas I silently freaked out. Although I'm not travelling anywhere in the near future (sadly) I thought to myself  'well I'm not sure if I'll like Hand Food so there's no point in getting the full sized product and paying more only to discover I hate it'.
Therefore I picked up Soap & Glory's Hand Food and their hand cleansing gel Hand Maid and headed over to the till to pay. It was there the women behind the counter told me there was a 3 for 2 offer on the travel mini's so I scurried back and chose the nivea creme after hearing so much about it.
The total came to £5 (Soap & Glory products were £2.50 each and the nivea creme was £1.50 so I got the cheapest free) which I think is pretty good for three little products.

I absolutely love Hand Food and got the full sized one for christmas so I definitely won't be running out soon - I still prefer taking the mini one to school though.
Hand Maid is something I bought just because it looks adorable and girly but I do use it often and it doesn't leave my hands gross & dry like some hand sanitizers.
I'm still not completely convinced on the Nivea Creme. It's very thick, almost like the texture of sudocreme, so I think it's good for dry patches but maybe not for everyday pampering.

Although I'm not 100% I think the 3 for 2 offer may still be available on travel sized products so you should check it out next time you're in boots. Not only was there other Soap & Glory products but I remember there was also little hair things like dry shampoo etc.

Do you have a weak spot for mini products too?!

my pamper evening's

Whenever I have one of those crappy days where everything just seems 'meh' I like to have an evening of therapy.
And my therapy is magazines, a girly/funny film & using products that'll make me feel all clean and pampered and special!

The first thing I do is run a bath - I don't know what it is about lying in a tub of my own dirt but it makes me so relaxed! 99% of the time I'll use a LUSH bath bomb and for this particular bath I used So White which I believe is from their christmas range. It smells amazing. Actually amazing isn't a good enough adjective - divine.
It smells divine.
I always plan to read in the bath but it never works out because either my magazine or book gets wet or my mind just wanders. I find it really hard to focus in the bath/shower so I usually daydream. Now you know!

Once my fingers and toes look like prunes I'll accept it's time to get back to reality and put some cosy pj's on. At this stage I like to do my skincare routine, apply a face mask if I have one and use any kind of cream or butter on my skin.
The Righteous Butter and Hand Food by Soap & Glory are fab. I am also loving their Peaches & Clean cleanser and recently I bought nose pore strips just to see what they are like! I have really bad chapped lips so I like to use the bubblegum lip scrub from LUSH and then a lip balm before I get into bed.

I tend to read a magazine while my face mask is working it's magic or before I put on the movie. I read cosmo, company, red, glamour, kiss and seventeen. Have I ever mentioned I am a magazine junkie? Someday I'd love to write for one...

Yesterday I bought The Bling Ring and this rom com collection dvd which has Love & Other Drugs and What Happens In Vegas (it was only £3!). I am really looking forward to watching the bling ring cause I remember there was a huge hype around it when it came out into the cinema. Any funny or girly film is the perfect way to end a pamper evening in my opinion - and I'd totally recommend Dirty Dancing, Superbad, 500 Days of Summer and Angus, Thongs & Perfect Snogging. There's so many more films I love but I don't want to bore you with a humongous list!

After a pamper evening my mood completely changes - instead of feeling rubbish like I did before, I feel positive and motivated. And sleepy but that's normal!

Do you have pamper evenings? What films do you watch/recommend?

cookie dough, friends and NYE | online journal

I haven't done an online journal post in a while, the last one was in August (yes I just went back and checked) so this past week I carried my camera around with me, took a few photos and I'm now going to fill you in with what I've been up to lately!
*that sounds slightly narcissistic - like let me fill you in about my life, me me me - sorry*

#1 mmmmmmmm cookie dough - it has to be my favourite snack food ever. I made betty crocker cookies recently and they were delicious, as always. I'm not going to lie though, I probably ate more of the cookie dough than the actual cookies.

#2 I read a lot of Rookie. For christmas I got both of the yearbooks and I love them so much. Sometimes I'll just flick through the pictures and photoshoots or stare at the illustrations because it's such a pretty book! Rookie is an online magazine founded by blogger tavi gevinson and it's basically a collection of writing, playlists and pictures for teenage girls (or not - you don't have to be a teenage girl to enjoy it) It's amazing.

#3 On New Year's Eve I had a really relaxing bath & pamper evening. I actually used & reviewed the twilight bath bomb from lush that night so click here to read that! (haha self promotion or what?)

#4 On Thursday I went to dublin with my friends eleanor, grace and rebecca. It was such a lovely day that was spent shopping, eating and watching the believe movie. I didn't choose the film by the way! I found it cheesy as hell but the others loved it because they all love justin bieber - whatever floats your boat ;)

#5 We ended the day in dublin by eating in nando's. It was the first time I had ever gotten a nando's and it was really good (mmm like looking at it now I really want to relive the experience) but maybe slightly overrated? I don't know... I'll have to go a few more times & order other things!

So a nice little week I think! I'm back to school on wednesday but I think I have to go in for a few hours tomorrow for a maths revision class (I'm repeating my maths gcse module.)

Did you do anything nice this past week?

I better go back to studying...
Adios amigos!

LUSH twilight bath bomb

I had the most relaxing bath on New Year's Eve.
Yes that's right - while everyone was out partying I had a pamper night for one. And it was wonderful!
If you read my 'what I got for christmas' post then you would have seen I got the twilight bath bomb from my little sister & I was really looking forward to using it. It kind of intrigued me because on the lush website it claims that the combination of lavendar and ovaltine will help induce sleep - and since I haven't been falling asleep until 2 or 3am during the christmas holidays, it sounded perfect!
As you can see in the photos above, when twilight is first put in the bath it releases a pink/purple colour and after a while blue is released. It foams and bubbles away but by the time the bath bomb has fizzed out there isn't as much foam/bubbles as I first thought. Twilight turns your bath a very deep purple and there are tiny sparkles - I think this is supposed to represent what the sky looks like at twilight - kinda cool, right?!
I found it really moisturising and my skin was left very soft.
It was NYE so obviously I stayed up until 12am and then I ended up watching (or should I say re-watching) the one direction movie again so I can't really say the bath bomb made me sleepy - but I did consume a lot of sugar that night so...

Anyway I would totally recommend the twilight bath bomb. The foam and bubbles (even if there wasn't as much as I expected) mixed with the colour, sparkles and beautiful lavender scent made it one of my all-time favourite lush products! I'm already thinking about when I can repurchase it...
